MESSAGE FROM FR KIERAN – Sunday 10th November

As we draw ever nearer to the end of the liturgical year, the Scripture readings at Mass tend to focus more on the end times and the end things. Death and resurrection themes feature frequently as they do in the readings for this Sunday.

It is natural for people to think about what happens when we die. Death is inevitable and we all have to come to terms with our mortality. For Christians the resurrection of Jesus is key to how we understand life and death. We believe that those who profess their faith in Jesus as the Saviour of all humanity and who live their lives according to his commandment to love, will not only experience an earthly death but will also share in the resurrection of Jesus and live an eternal life with him.

Our Christian hope gives a particular meaning and perspective to our earthly lives. We view life with all its ups and downs in the light of the resurrection of Jesus. We know that there is something more than just the here and now. This is especially important in the difficult and challenging moments of life. Life can be a struggle at times but for Christians it is a struggle that is supported by the hope and promise of eternal life with God.

In these November days as we remember the faithful departed, we are invited to renew our commitment to Christian living, following the example of those who have gone before us, as we look forward in hope to the new life that awaits us with God in heaven.
