Parish Pastoral Council

Mission Statement

We, the Parish Community of Castleknock proclaim a shared faith and hope of salvation through Jesus Christ, under the maternal care of Mary our Mother. We acknowledge the gift of the Holy Spirit in our midst as we endeavour to become a visible community of Faith, Hope and Love.

In March 2005, the Parish Pastoral Council was established in Our Lady’s Parish in accordance with the wishes of the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr. Diarmuid Martin. The aim of the council is to provide leadership structures that enable priests and parishioners to work together to build up a dynamic Christian community that is characterised by faith, evangelisation, worship and service.

The main topics the Parish Pastoral Council is dealing with during the first half of 2015 are:

1.  Synod on the Family. A Parish Meeting was held on Monday 23rd February and parishioners responses to the Synod questionnaire were recorded and collated for submission to the Archdiocese.

2.  Ongoing work on Child Protection including comprehensive audits on all Parish Groups and their members.

3. The Third World Partnership. A three person delegation visited our partner parish in Ethiopia, Metcha Borrodo, and reported on the trip at our March meeting. The childrens’ School is in great need of repair and we will continue to concentrate our efforts on the childrens’ educational needs.

4.  Evangelising older children. Children from 3rd, 4th, and 5th classes were each invited to attend a Saturday evening Mass – so far the response has greatly exceeded expectations.

5.  World Day of the Sick Seminar. Two PPC members attended on Saturday 7th February and are now working on an initiative “ Simon of Cyrene “ which visits elderly and housebound parishioners in their homes.

6.  Evangelising Adults. Many parishioners have stopped practicing their faith and do not attend regularly at Mass or the Sacraments. This initiative will attempt to rekindle their faith and provide opportunities for them to experience the “ Joy of the Gospels “ !

7.  Fr. Connolly’s 60th Anniversary celebrations. Fr ( Canon ) Connolly celebrated the 10am Mass on Thursday 5th March, followed by light refreshments afterwards in the Parish Centre.  A more formal event is planned for later in the Spring.
