Presentation of the Lord – 2nd February

The Presentation of the Lord occurs 40 days after the birth of Jesus. Mary and Joseph bring the child Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem in fulfilment of the Jewish custom. There they encounter Simeon and Anna who both make prophetic statements about Jesus. We bless candles on this day in recognition of Jesus whom we acknowledge as the light of the world.
